At this customer site, a house in the south of Espoo, almost all the lighting was implemented with LedStore products. For the control of the lights, the client chose a smart control system, which was implemented Zigbee-based with Athom Homey Pro. The wireless controllers and Zigbee power supplies for the lights are also from LedStore. We visited the site to photograph the best parts of the lighting. Here you go!

The open-plan kitchen has directional, dimmable and colour-temperature adjustable spot lighting in a ring in front of the cabinets. The task lights are from Puustell.

In a high corridor space, Fokus three-phase track lighting adds power and interest to the lighting. The lights have adjustable opening angle, dimming and selectable white light colour temperature. The FOKUS light uses the Nordic aluminium/Nokia 3-phase rail which is the industry standard. The 3-phase rail is available as surface or recessed (on site).

Evenly spaced 9W directional spotlights (dimming and shade control included) provide suitable general lighting. The colour temperature, matched to the wall texture, adds to the harmonious atmosphere of the room. If the light were too cool, the work would look greyish, not at all how it is meant to look and create an atmosphere.

The versatile KOLO 12W spotlight is an excellent choice for steep ceilings. KOLO does not glare sideways, which is a nice feature when the lights are close to the user. The direction of illumination can be selected with the fully adjustable lights. KOLO has a sliding colour temperature control, as well as dimming.

The versatile lighting in the bathrooms consists of wall lights, ceiling spotlights and LED strip lighting to accentuate the back wall. The tiling is matt and therefore does not reflect light at all.

The lighting solution in the wardrobe is two LED light profiles recessed in the ceiling. They provide even and bright lighting in a windowless space. It was also the most practical solution in a low space.

In the fireplace room, the focus of the lighting is downwards from the ceiling. The warm white light harmonises with the evening sun.
From lighting design to practice
When a lighting design was made for a site, but as is very often the case, the final design differs from the planned one. Take, for example, the shelf lights in a wardrobe. The space became shallower, making it difficult to fit furniture into the space, and it was decided to move the lighting to a sloping ceiling surface.
The reasons for the change are usually a change in the structural solution (e.g. the construction is too low) or a change of mind. Here are the original lighting plans.
Lighting design 1 Floor

The main product chosen for this project was an unobtrusive classic, the LED-033W. It’s a white directional general luminaire that sits nicely on the plaster ceiling and doesn’t make too much of itself. The light fits into a traditional “two-by-two” column (48x48mm + 13mm plaster).
The only indirect light downstairs was under the kitchen bar and on the stairs. For the stairs, the light was installed under each step and was provided by the stair manufacturer LedStore.
Downstairs, there are also IN-WALL lighting fixtures for the night mode, which illuminate the passage from the 20cm floor level in a pleasant way in the dark. These are installed in such a way that night-time runs from the kitchen to the hallway are safe.
Lighting design 2 Floor

On a steeply sloping surface, it’s difficult to find a light that fits the space but at the same time provides sufficient directionality. That’s why KOLO was chosen, a retractable light with 180 degrees of free orientation. The special feature of the KOLO light is the possibility of pushing it into the ceiling or pulling it out completely. The KOLO light normally requires 10cm of recessed space, but the light’s protective cup was shortened on site to 55m due to the shallowness of the casing, as the light is not intended to be pushed into the roof.
To maintain the style, the upstairs lobby was fitted with 3-stage rail lights in white. The 15W FOKUS and the 35W FOKUS were used. The special feature of this light is its colour temperature control via a switch (on the light) and the optics that allow the light to be freely focused at an angle of 10-60 degrees. The angle of the light opening is adjusted by turning the front of the light like a camera zoom. A more powerful 35W model was added for high spaces to provide sufficient light load.
Indirect light was used moderately in the washrooms and in the toilet. The toilets were implemented with indirect light under the levels. These lights are switched on by a motion sensor and act as a glare-free night light. In the washrooms, light was only wanted on the effect walls to accentuate the tile. On the stairs, the light came under the steps.

Smart home in South Espoo
Almost all the lighting in this site is colour temperature controlled. The occupant can adjust the lighting temperature to suit the materials or the atmosphere. All lighting groups have their own smart button on the wall in the EXXACT frame set to store 2 preferences (e.g. cleaning and mood), as well as traditional dimming and infinitely variable temperature control. The button is a Zigbee P1CCT wireless button.
The lighting in the whole house will therefore be Zigbee-controllable and the occupant will be able to change the control application in the future. Right now there is a Philips HUE to control everything, but it could also be Azoula, Homeassistant, Tuya, or some other Zigbee 3.0 control system.
The advantage of control systems is automation. So you can use your mobile phone to create your own timings, for example, in the morning you can turn on certain lights and a cooler light, and in the evening you can turn on another light and a warmer light. Automatically without pressing any buttons. And of course automatically turning everything off at midnight.
