Lighting can be used to create a variety of moods and contribute to the comfort of the bathroom. Led lighting creates energy-efficient and versatile lighting. Introducing the modernised lighting of a bathroom renovation in the Led Store, which dramatically improved the usability and comfort of the space.

Previous bathroom renovation from the 90s

At the start of the bathroom renovation, time had run out on the bathroom fixtures and lighting. The tiles were intact, but the fixtures were cracked and, for example, the mirrored cabinet had an ugly yellowing of the light dome and a broken light fitting. The non-dimmable light fitting in the centre of the ceiling was not fit for purpose. The lighting in the fireplace room also needed a new look, and more atmospheric light.

Versatile lighting for a new bathroom with multiple lighting points

The bathroom is 4 m2 in size, and was designed with a strip of LEDs in an aluminium profile on one wall, illuminating from the surface of the panel, next to the wall. The LED strip and the aluminium profile were also used under the sink cabinet. Two flush-mounted spots were placed near the mirror to provide light for decoration. The mirror chosen was a round, MOON 600 mirror, which reflects light around it and through the frosted edge to the front. In addition, a small 4x1W sauna spotlight was used to light the towel lockers.

The fireplace is lit by a 72 Wm LED strip with a neutral light colour which does not accentuate the yellow tone of the wood A further 72 Wm of the same LED strip is hidden at the front edge of the board illuminating towards the floor and between the board space and the steam room The led strips are mounted on a plastic covered aluminium profile which helps with heat control and prevents splash water from entering the strip A wireless dimmable transformer is located outside the booth

In total, five different lighting points were used in the shower instead of two. The more points of light, the more varied the moods and lighting intensities. A 7.2 W/m dimmable LED strip was added behind the backrest, up and down. Three levels of LED strips were installed underneath the boards in the sauna. They can be switched on at different times with a wireless switch. The old, small light points were left in the ceiling and connected to the same switch as the overall lighting.

Variable mood lighting with colour-temperature controlled luminaires

The new colour scheme went from blue-white tiling and yellowed panelling to white walls, grey flooring and dark brown heat-treated pine on the ceiling. Colour temperature controlled, dimmable luminaires were used in the form of 9W Fixed Kantti spots in the ceiling, and 14.4W/m in a 24V CCT LED strip. The colour temperature of the light can be varied in a sliding scale from warm white at around 2500 Kelvin, to cool white, crisp 6500 Kelvin. Changes in colour temperature are very visible in the room, and colour temperature is an essential mood creator.

With the colour temperature adjustable LED strip a white wall can be made to glow with either a warm yellowish or a bluish cool shade The CCT control allows the colour temperature to be changed continuously The controller also has a dimming function

Lighting control also made use of wireless Zigbee technology for smart homes

As the number of luminaires increased, so did the number of lighting switches. The wireless system made it easy to add more control points. By choosing Zigbee-compatible transformers and dimming buttons, the choice of button locations was free. In addition, Zigbee technology makes it possible to connect the lights to any smart home system that uses Zigbee technology, if desired.
