In this article, we present the result of LedStore’s lighting design service and the lighting of a new house, which has combined the new and the old into a functional whole.
Lighting design at speed
We quickly got an overnight plan when we chose Light at Speed – lighting design. We were in a hurry with the design, because we didn’t even know that we needed a separate lighting plan at the beginning. And then when we started to find out who could do the design, we found LedStore by browsing the web,” Kristina says of the project’s launch, and continues.
Janne had a good grip on the design and the plan had good tips and solutions. The cooperation worked well and our installer thanked us for the easy spot installation. We visited LedStore once before buying and found all the lights in and out of their range. I think the design was quick and affordable for its kind”.
“Fortunately, we chose a lighting design service. What was really exceptional about the construction job was that with LedStore it went smoothly, even though in construction things tend to drag on and schedules are tight. It was this smooth handling of things from the start that made us decide to work with LedStore. We didn’t have an interior designer, so we did a lot of research and searching: products, materials and installation solutions. When it came to lighting, everything was much easier,” says Kristina.
Lighting design service and lights in one place
“In terms of lighting, it was a great relief that the whole package from design to products came from one place. This is our first house to use recessed lighting. We wouldn’t have even known we needed it, and would have taken far too little light without the lighting design. And the fact that all the lights are dimmable has been really good,” says Kristina.
“When the clients contacted me, and sent me the floor plans and other details of the house, I jumped at the chance. The entire interior and exterior lighting of a large building is such a large entity that there was a clear need for lighting design. With just pendant lights from the previous home, it would have been difficult to get functional and interesting lighting in all the spaces. Our selection included both recessed spotlights, as well as round and square panel lights of different sizes,” Janne Halttu describes the lighting solutions at the site and continues:
“For power lighting and accent lighting, I used a recessed LED strip in aluminium profile for different styles of installation. In particular, a long 17 metre long window wall facing the sea tempted me to design accent lighting with a recessed LED strip profile only 7mm deep into the floor. For the high space between the two floors, I designed wall lights to both divide the space and add light to the adjacent staircase. Smaller recessed In-wall wall lights are ideal for lighting the staircase. The client’s own beautiful pendant lights and floor lamps worked well with the LEDs and complemented the decorative look.” A lighting design service therefore helps to weld the whole together.
“The total space planned was 400m2 and the rooms are high. On the ground floor the room height is 3 metres and on the upper floor the room height rises from 4 metres to about 6 metres. Without planning, we would not have been able to choose the necessary number of lights. From a decorative point of view, we also used pendant lights, but their light output is not so important when the general lighting is provided by recessed spotlights and panels,” says Kristina.
General lighting from ceiling luminaires and accent lighting from indirect LED strip lights
The lighting design service ensured that the lighting had both spot and indirect lighting, according to the client’s wishes: “We managed to get all the solutions we wanted. For the general lighting, we chose 3000K warm-light hue luminaires. The general lighting is sufficient and well positioned. Additional lighting is provided by the 17 W/m flat LED strips in front of the windows in a recessed aluminium profile. They work well even if only as general lighting, and they have good dimming,” says Kristina. He also likes the LED strip light in the corner behind the fireplace, which is in a flush profile, meaning the light is flush with the wall. “The light comes in nice and soft and accentuates the fireplace wall nicely.”
Kristina thinks the indirect lighting solutions worked very well: “In the kitchen island, the indirect light in the alcove and on the bar level side under the table level gives a nice soft lighting. Indirect lighting solutions that work well are the LED strip in the bathroom corridor, illuminated from the ceiling recess, and the LED strips in the bathroom and dressing room, illuminated through the wall. Indirect dimmable lighting adds a calm atmosphere to the space, and I use it a lot.”
