FLOAT’s new relaxation lounges needed sensory-friendly lighting that would be suitable for relaxation. The premises were renovated to suit the new purpose, which meant that new solutions could also be found for the lighting. LED strip lighting and directional spotlights with indirect light control via the wall were chosen .

Indirect LED strip lighting provides just the right amount of light

“We wanted indirect light in our space. It’s important to us that the space is calming and indirect light supports this idea. Direct light can also be a bit too harsh, especially if you’ve just spent an hour without any sensory stimulation – your senses are quite heightened. We found the right products and a competitive price at LedStore,” says Juho Rautiainen of Float Center Helsinki Oy.

Lighting matters before and after floating

The floating pool is a sensory-free environment where the body, lost in salt water, finds complete rest and where the mind naturally tends towards a meditative state. The pool is a light and sound-proof space, about 2.5 metres long and 1.5 metres wide and high, with very salty, buoyant water at the bottom.

Before and after entering and exiting the floating pool, guests will enjoy high quality lighting. Good LED lighting has no light spikes or flicker and a high colour rendering index. In the light of a high colour rendering index, the sensory experience of the space is “correct”. The lighting can also be dimmed to provide the right level of light for every space.

Led light strip PRO chosen as indirect light source

For the installation of the lighting, the Led PRO strip was chosen to provide uniform illumination. It has a CRI of a stunning 95, compared to 100 for sunlight. The PRO strip therefore provides light with a natural colour rendering index. The colour temperature of the light was chosen to be a neutral 4000 Kelvin to make it as natural as possible. The LED strip was mounted on an aluminium surface profile, which, when illuminated through a diffusing cover, provides a uniform and spotless light. The aluminium profile protects the strip from heat, dust and moisture to maximise its longevity.

Directional spotlights were chosen for some of the spaces

The stunning colour rendering index CRI of 98 was also one of the selection criteria when the Led Downlight Round 033 9W spot was chosen for some of the rooms.
The angle of the light can be adjusted by about 30 degrees, so the light can be directed away from the floating pool, but still illuminate the bright space well.
