Led fluorescent tubes are an excellent choice if your old (gas discharge) fluorescent tubes are on their way out. Their energy efficiency (energy class A++), fast ignition and long life are among their trump cards. According to the new energy efficiency rating, LED tubes with the same wattage are class E. The advantages of LED tubes over fluorescent tubes are that, in addition, they do not require igniters, and the light output of LEDs does not drop as fluorescent tubes age. The light comes on immediately without flickering, so the LED tube can be used in combination with a motion sensor. So even though fluorescent tubes have been discontinued, you can still buy an efficient, high-quality LED tube for the same body.
At home, LED tubes are a good option for hobby and storage rooms, for example. In businesses, tubes work well in production areas, warehouses and shops as general lighting. Led tubes are also widely used in offices and lobbies.
Led tube to replace fluorescent tube
LedStore’s LED fluorescent tubes can be safely replaced either with an existing luminaire or new frames can be purchased at the same time as the tubes. For fluorescent tube light fittings with a strong reflective inner surface, replacing the fluorescent tube with an LED tube of equivalent wattage is likely to give a dimmer light than the fluorescent tube, because the LED tube is not omnidirectional and therefore does not get the additional benefit of the overhead reflector. However, the Led tube rotates 360 degrees around the body, so it can be turned 180 degrees around to reflect through the reflector if desired. In this case, the light becomes indirect, and all the light is reflected through the body.
LedStore offers frames suitable for two 1 500 mm long LED tubes, which in our experience are the most common frames for LED tubes. One of our frames is water and dust proof with transparent acrylic cover, and IP rating 65. The second frame is intended for dry areas, without dome, IP 20. IP 21 is white and IP 65 is light grey and comes with a five-year guarantee. The bodies for Led tubes do not need separate igniters and cannot be used with traditional fluorescent tubes, which need an igniter. When installing new frames, please note that only a professional electrician can safely connect the mains power supply.
58w fluorescent vs. led
The luminous efficacy of LEDs is better than that of a traditional fluorescent tube. Depending on the type, fluorescent tubes produce about 45-75 lumens/W, and LED tubes about 120 lumens/W, so for example. A 58 W (gas discharge) fluorescent tube produces around 3 000 lumens. This is the lumen output of a 25 W LED tube. This means lower electricity consumption and significant savings.
Replacing fluorescent tubes with LED – features of the new tubes
The LED tubes we sell are T8 tubes with G13 sockets. The lengths are 600 mm, 1 200 mm and 1 500 mm. We manufacture the pipes ourselves from high-quality components, so you can be confident in the quality of the pipes. We’ve put a lot of effort into the colour rendering index, so that the LED tubes also reproduce the colours of the surrounding space in a natural way, rather than the blue-grey tint that is a problem with low-quality LEDs.
The LED tubes are made of aluminium and the light shines through opal acrylic. The other half of the tube is aluminium, and the tube emits light from a 180-degree width. Aluminium cools the LED circuits, which is the secret to the long life of the LED, and at the same time the LED tube is very durable. The tube has no glass, which makes it safe to transport.
Led tubes are available in several wattages in different light colours, from 3 000 Kelvin, which is warm white, to neutral 4000 Kelvin. For those who want, there is also a cold white 6 000 Kelvin, the so-called. shade of natural light.

Safety of fluorescent led lights in retrofit model tubes
Our pipes are safe, CE marked. They also meet international requirements. Some customers were concerned about LED tubes in the past, because LED tubes replacing fluorescent tubes had safety problems, e.g. during the 2010 TUKES inspections. These problems have been reported in the spring 2010 issue of Rakennuslehti. We have never had such pipes for sale. In our tubes, the current only enters at one end of the tube, which is one of the most important safety features of an LED tube, and is a good factor to consider when choosing an LED fluorescent tube replacement.
The LED tubes we sell are suitable for replacing fluorescent tubes without any modifications to the fluorescent tube body, i.e. they are retrofit-type. Replacing the fluorescent tube with an LED tube means in practice that the fluorescent tube igniter is replaced by an LED “igniter”. (with a short-circuit bar) and the fluorescent tube is replaced by an LED tube. Led lighter is included when you order a led tube from us. A Led fluorescent lamp therefore works without the need for a starter, which is required for the fluorescent tube. The single-tube bodies with electronic ballasts go one-to-one with our LED tubes. By replacing fluorescent tubes with LEDs, you reduce the number of potentially faulty parts.
Will an LED fluorescent tube replace a normal one?
For all of the two-tube fluorescent tube boxes we sell, we cannot promise with 100% certainty that our tubes will work directly, only 99% promise. In the two-piece LED tube light fittings we buy from us, the tubes are guaranteed to work because they do not have a separate ballast. The change is slightly bigger in this case, as the frames are also replaced. But if it happens that the replacement of fluorescent tubes with LEDs does not go perfectly, and there is a problem with the new tube lighting, you can return the tubes to us and get your money back.
Retrofit i.e. compatible led tube
These LED tubes are therefore so-called. compatible LED tubes designed to replace old fluorescent tubes directly without modification. Often a little more expensive because of the technology.
Single-end, i.e. LED tube requiring modification
These single-end LED tubes are designed to be used by modifying the body of the fluorescent tube. The choke and the igniter are removed and only one end is fed directly with 230V.
So be careful what you shop for!
Brief comparison of fluorescent vs led
Here are five reasons why LED tubes to replace fluorescent tubes is a good alternative:
- ignition time, slow vs. fast
- electricity consumption, high vs. low
- uniformity of light, flashing vs. steady
- lifetime, short vs. long
- ageing, light output decreases vs. light output stays until the end

Replacing fluorescent tubes with LEDs
If you are replacing both the light source and the fluorescent bulb, you should also look at other bulb options. Our range includes high efficiency 50w and 30w Jana luminaires in a fixed body, with fixed LED. They can be daisy-chained at both ends with the cables supplied. The 50W Jana produces a staggering 5000 lumens, which is the equivalent of two 1500 mm fluorescent tubes. The protection class against water and dust is ideal IP65.
LED panel lights are also widely used, in sizes ranging from 30×30 cm up to 600×1200 mm. They have good, even light and are not glaring.

Replacing fluorescent tubes with an efficient linear luminaire from LED strip lighting
Fluorescent tubes are most often used in warehouses and garages, as well as in hobby and leisure areas. If a change in lighting style is desired, linear luminaires made of LED strip and a custom-made aluminium profile are the perfect option. For a spectacular effect, plus LED lights that blend in perfectly with the roof surface, make a lighting renovation with LED strip lighting. In the simplest case, low (8 mm high) surface profiles are fixed to the ceiling and the LED strip is glued on. Covers, ends and brackets are included. The Led strip is connected to a transformer and powered from the desired power supply point. At best, 3,200 lumens per metre can be achieved by choosing a double wide profile and the most efficient LedStore ribbon double. This is the perfect solution for example. on top of the workstation on the ceiling. If the installation site is closer to e.g. on the edge of a shelf, even lower light output is sufficient.
