LED luminaires can be controlled and used in many different ways. Here we present a price for a product set with six plafond and four different control options:
- single colour temperature luminaire group and wired dimming, EUR 453
- colour temperature adjustable luminaire group with wired dimming and colour temperature control, EUR 575
- colour temperature adjustable luminaire group with wireless dimming and colour temperature control, €579
- colour temperature adjustable lighting cluster and wireless smart control with Zigbee products, 698 euros
As a model, we have six flush-mounted led plafonds 160 (12W, 24V) and their control arrangement. The six Plafondi 160 luminaires are ideal for general lighting in a bedroom of 12-16 m², for example. In option one, i.e. the single colour temperature option, the light hue is selected at the time of purchase from the options, warm 3000K or, neutral 4000K. In options 2-4, the colour temperature of the white light in the luminaires is adjustable between approximately 2700K and 5500K, i.e. from warm white to cool white. Both the mood colour temperature and the brightness can both be adjusted continuously in these control solutions.
1. Single colour temperature luminaire and conductive dimming
In this solution, the luminaires are installed in a suspended ceiling and the individual power supplies are daisy-chained with a mains cable. One Schneider EXXACT wall dimmer is installed to control the group. Other dimmers suitable for LED luminaires are also well suited for dimming our LedPlafondi 160 panel luminaires. 2. Wired control – dimming of luminaires and colour temperature control with wall dimmer
The wired control for the six ceilings consists not only of the ceilings and the wall dimmer, but also of a transformer and a three-wire harness, which is installed between the dimmer and the luminaires to provide stepless colour temperature control and dimming. The wiring harness is ordered separately. The price of the package is EUR 575. The price is 27% higher than for single colour temperature luminaires.
3. Wireless control – wireless dimming and colour temperature control
In a wireless control solution, the wall dimmer connects to a receiver built into the transformer. The price of products for this solution is not much different from a wall dimmer solution, the only difference in practice is that the dimmer can be freely positioned where it is needed, and several dimmers can be installed to control a single group. For example, at different entrances to a large room, or at the top and bottom of a staircase. The wiring harness includes a transformer, a controller and a wiring harness for the colour temperature controlled ceiling. The control also works for 24V spots and panels. The price for this option is 579 euros. Only four euros more than for the wired control.
4. Wireless smart control with Zigbee products
A new feature of the wireless smart control solution is wireless products using the Zigbee protocol. The kit includes LedStore’s Zigbee hub and is powered by the Easy Home mobile app, available for both Android and iOS. The Zigbee protocol allows for a very versatile home automation control, and the hub and app can be chosen from practically many solutions, such as Philips Hue, Ikea Trådfri, Google Home, or Samsung SmartThings. This leaves out LedStore’s Zigbee hub. In practice, it’s worth having a mobile control in addition to wall-mounted dimmers. They connect to a receiver built into the Zigbee hub. The price of products for this solution differs by +20% from the wireless wall-mounted dimmer solution presented above. The difference is that a Zigbee hub and Zigbee transformers are required for smart control and the wireless wall switches are about €10 more expensive per unit than the wired RF products. The Easy Home mobile app is free of charge. The control also works for 24V spots and panels. Once the hub is purchased, it can be connected to virtually all the lights and other smart devices in the apartment, reducing the cost of the hub per group controlled. The price for this option is €698.
