LedStore was involved from lighting design to the purchase of luminaires in the complete renovation of a high-end apartment on the shore of Töölönlahti Bay in Helsinki. A wide variety of LED panels, LED strip, spotlights, wall lights and accent lighting were used. All lighting controls were implemented with wireless controllers, and wall switches were installed alongside for on/off switching. The luminaires are compatible with the wireless Zigbee protocol, and for the most part are colour temperature adjustable. Residents are pleased with the successful implementation of the lighting and the modern lighting control system.
Led panels in the hallway provide even light
The hallway needed plenty of light, so two 600×600 LED panels were recessed into the ceiling. The panels have a power of 36W per luminaire and a light output of 3000 lumens per luminaire. The solution gave the space a sense of space and height. The flush mounting depth of the panels with power supply is only about 35 mm, so they can fit into a shallow installation space if required. For Zigbee smart control, a single 100W Zigbee transform er with CCT capability was selected as the transformer for the panels.
Direct and indirect LED strip lighting for living and sleeping areas
In the large living room, indirect lighting was designed with LED strip lighting that wraps around the room. The walls of the living room curve beautifully at the ceiling-wall interface, so the light also opens up naturally along the ceiling from the bottom up. The occupant accentuated the wall/ceiling border with white and grey paint, and a convex aluminium profile was mounted on the border for indirect lighting, with an LED strip attached to provide upward illumination. The LED strip has an output of 14.4 W/m. Controlled by a dimmable, wirelessly controlled transformer with Zigbee smart control. The aluminium profile was tinted in the same colour as the wall. As an additional feature, decorative luminaires were installed in the centre of the room and in the corner, also using LedStore’s high colour rendering index E27 LED bulbs.
In the children’s bedrooms, LED strip lighting is functionally located in the wardrobe drawer, from where it provides ample illumination of the room. Additional lighting is provided by ceiling lights. The implementation uses LedStore’s recessed narrow aluminium profile, 14.4 W/m LED strip, and wirelessly controlled power supplies. The high LED strip brings light to the whole room.
In the large bedroom, the LED strip is also embedded in the structure, providing unobtrusive light in just the right place to illuminate the reading corner. The 14.4 W/m LED strip, which is colour temperature adjustable, can be used to create the desired atmosphere by adjusting both the colour temperature and the brightness of the lighting. The picture below shows four different colour temperatures, i.e. changing the Kelvin value changes the mood from warm to cool.
Kitchen lighting with LED strip on worktops and cabinetry
The kitchen was also fitted with linear, even lighting. High colour rendering LED strip lighting was installed on the worktop and over the cabinets in a low profile surface. Only the dining table was fitted with a hanging fixture, so the indirect lighting on two walls above the cupboards provides good support for the lighting throughout the room. The mood of the kitchen can also be adjusted from warm white to cool, crisp white. The Led strip is also dimmable.
The kitchen worktop is matte black, so there was no need to worry about the LED strip reflecting off the worktop. The LED strip in the low aluminium profile smoothes the light and the cover of the aluminium profile prevents dust and splashes from reaching the LED circuits.
The utility room and shower rooms were illuminated with versatile and high-quality lighting
In the utility room, attention needs to be paid to sufficient lighting levels, so high output, high colour rendering 9W Fixed Kantti spotlights with a stylish brushed aluminium, clear aluminium surround were chosen for the space. The spots are watertight, so the same spots were also chosen for the shower areas, which are located adjacent to the utility room. The shape of the frame of the spots fits well with the narrow ceiling panelling. The spot’s mounting hole is circular, which facilitates installation. The installation depth is 55mm. The worktops were fitted with two levels of high performance LED strip on a white surface-mounted aluminium profile. The LED strip was installed at the back edge of the cabinetry, where it illuminates the light-coloured, beautiful tile and provides enough light for the worktop.
The showers have three levels of lighting: ceiling spotlights, LED strip and mirror lighting and LINJA 5 spotlights. For moody moments, the amount of light can be reduced and the beautiful wooden tiles are given their due. Ceiling lighting can also be controlled by a motion sensor, which is very practical for everyday use.
The lighting in the bathrooms has been implemented in a multi-level design to create a peaceful atmosphere when needed. The beautifully structured wooden tile of the shower wall stands out in the soft light.
