A home control system such as ABB free@home or KNX is often used to automatically switch on, switch off and dim LED luminaires. Lighting can also be intelligently controlled via a home WiFi system by connecting the lighting to the home’s wireless data network. If no home control system is in place, wireless wall switches and remote control provide more possibilities for operating and dimming LED luminaires than a wired wall button.
Transformer selection essential in automation systems
Led luminaires differ in terms of the type of power supplies, or transformers, they are equipped with. LedStore transformer options include triac transformers, DALI transformers, RF transformers, 12-24V low current spot transformers, and “basic” transformers for on/off operation of lights.
Choosing the right transformer for the control system allows dimming and automation programming.
Led ceiling lights are suitable for most automation systems
When buying LED lights, make sure that the transformer in the luminaire is dimmable.
LedStore branded ceiling luminaires for general lighting manufactured and imported by Led Store always include a triac dimmable transformer unless otherwise stated. They are suitable for ABB free@home and KNX automation systems, for example, without transformer modifications. On request, we can replace the luminaires with DALI transformers, allowing programmable DALI lighting controls to be made.
using LedStore luminaires.
Easy selection of transformers suitable for automation in Led strips
For LED strip lighting, in addition to the LED strip and the aluminium profile, a power supply of optimum power (W) and suitable characteristics is always selected, which operates at the same voltage as the strip (12V or 24V) and can withstand the necessary amount of load on the LED strip.
For automation systems, a triac-type transformer is most often suitable, where lighting is controlled from the primary side, which is the best option in terms of electricity savings.
Another type of transformer used in automation controls is the DALI transformer.
In DALI transformers, the grouping of luminaires is part of the programming, so the wattages of the transformers in the luminaires are selected according to the groups of luminaires used.
Wireless lighting control without coding
LedStore’s VaLO family of WiFi boxes and receivers, on the other hand, can be used to turn on, turn off and dim ceiling lights using a mobile app in addition to wall buttons. No other lighting control system is needed for this.
The VaLO family of luminaires is controlled by a wireless, Radio Frequency (RF) dimming system. Transformers suitable for control can be triac, 12V and 24V, on/off or RF.
In the VaLO wireless system, the RF receiver is installed on the primary or secondary side, depending on the luminaire. Receivers or RF transformers containing a receiver are easily paired to create wireless buttons or remote controls.
LedStore luminaires are also suitable for photovoltaic systems and 12-24V automation systems
In addition to automation systems, LedStore luminaires are suitable for a house or other illuminated object, such as a caravan, boat or truck hub, that operates fully or partially on 24V. All models of Led strips are available in 24V and can be connected with wireless control, for example with a remote control. Low-voltage transformers (12V-24V) are available on request for our downlights, i.e. recessed spotlights and spotlight kits.
Summary of LedStore’s luminaire control
LedStore’s dimmable luminaires are suitable for whole-house automation controls, as well as lighter-weight wireless lighting control that connects to the house WiFi network. The choice of transformer characteristics is essential when looking for LED luminaires suitable for a home control system. In general, the options to find the right transformer for different needs are triac, DALI, 12V or 24V on/off transformer, RF transformer and 12V-24V transformer for spot lights.
All these types of transformers are available for almost all lamps in the Led Store.
