Outdoor lighting is important in Finnish conditions. The use of LEDs is an excellent option, as they are very resistant to cold temperatures. You can create a versatile and functional outdoor lighting system with LedStore lights. In this blog post, we will share the most common tips for successful outdoor LED lighting. By using many types of lighting, you can make your outdoor spaces interesting and light the spaces according to their needs. Our range includes outdoor LED strip lights, LED spotlights, low light poles, wall lights and wall lights. Our focus here is mainly on outdoor lighting for small houses and cottages. By outdoor lighting, we mean lighting for terraces, house walls, eaves, garden paths, planting and walls, among other things. The luminaires can be installed to operate from a switch, or automatically with a timer or motion sensor. Remember that electrical work is always carried out by a professional.

At its best, outdoor lighting highlights the details of the yard, and creates a sense of security and atmosphere. Led lights are efficient illuminators, so it is important to pay attention to the intensity of the lighting, i.e. the total number of luminaires. The colour of the light should also be chosen according to the desired atmosphere. For outdoor use, the most common colour chosen is warm white, i.e. 3000K. When the outdoor environment is dim or dark, we recommend choosing a luminaire that does not glare when switched on. With the right lighting, the eye also gets used to the unlit part of the yard fairly quickly. In Finland, winter and snow add to the lighting experience, as snow reflects light, thus increasing the “power” of the lighting. As a rule of thumb, a good amount of light in outdoor spaces is a rule of thumb on both sides of ten. It is therefore considerably lower than the 200-300 lux used for general indoor lighting. It is advisable to use a professional to design the lighting for your garden, just as you would use a professional to design the lighting and electricity for your interior. Often, lighting can also be considered as part of a garden design.

Led outdoor lights there are many options for the implementation of yard lighting. Led strip can be used to create stylish accent lighting or mood lighting. The most popular installation location on the façade is at the bottom of the eaves of a house. The strip can be cut to the desired length, as it can be cut every 10 cm (HELMEILE 7,2 W/m). The Led strip can also be used at the bottom of stair treads and stair rails as an effect and to illuminate passageways. The LED strip can also be used on the roof trim of a covered terrace or carport, either as a single strip or in sections of the desired length.

What shade of light outside?

As a starting point, we recommend using 7,2W/m HELMEILE LED strip. For a more modern look, use the whiter 4 000 Kelvin strip, and for a more earthy, slightly more yellowish light, use the 3 000 Kelvin strip.

The entrances to the house and the yard, the storage room and the garage should be well lit. Suitable options include LedStore wall lights, which can illuminate either downwards or in two directions, upwards and downwards. Inserts in the roof or eaves can also be used to spotlights or plafonds are well suited to the purpose.

Pillar luminaires

Corridors and terrace lounges can be atmospherically lined with pillar lights, available from LedStore in heights of 800 and 1000 mm. The best outdoor lighting is directed downwards from the luminaire, so the light is not dazzling. The pillars can be either forward or backward illuminated or freely oriented. LedStore round pillar luminaire is also ideal for low-lying plantings. For illuminating walkways and outdoor staircases, recessed, downward-facing luminaires are also an excellent solution. Led wall luminaires. These luminaires are supplied with a recessed box which is installed in the wall or staircase during the casting phase. Installation is then very easy. Most of our outdoor luminaires (wall luminaires and column luminaires) have a light colour of 3 000 or 3500 Kelvin.

Spotlighting

Spot lighting outdoors can be used led spotlightsto direct the light to the desired location. Outdoor lighting with spotlights can be used, for example, in a cottage, where illuminating trees can create a beautiful and welcoming, even spectacular, effect. Spotlights are also often used to illuminate car parks and larger facades (often where there are no windows, of course). Floodlights are very energy efficient, with a 10 watt luminaire producing 900 lumens. The spotlights have a light hue of 4 000 Kelvin.

Terrace lighting

Outdoor lighting on terraces is usually recessed lighting. The range includes several different models that can be freely combined. Terrace lights in 1 ,2, 4 directions or up. The series is therefore built with the desired combinations according to the customer’s wishes. Available in 3000 or 4000K

Moisture resistance is important for outdoor luminaires

LedStore’s outdoor luminaires are designed with moisture resistance in mind. Our luminaires have IP ratings ranging from IP44 to IP65. Especially the LED strips are well protected. The IP65 LED strip is coated with a non-yellowing silicone. Led strips also need a power supply, These are available from us for both damp and dry areas. Our other outdoor luminaires include a transformer as standard, and this is usually housed inside the body of the luminaire. The protection rating is IP55 for pillar, masonry and wall luminaires and IP65 for floodlights.
